  One of Baptist Global Response ‘s strengths as an organization is its quality team, which has years of experience in both relief and development. However, the organization’s main strength lies in the power of cooperation between 16 million plus Southern Baptists in the United States and partner Baptist groups all over the world.

• How is Baptist Global Response funded?

  Baptist Global Response’s operational funding has been initially provided for by a private grant. The IMB also partners with BGR to help administer and direct its human needs ministry funds, primarily the World Hunger Fund. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, Baptist Global Response also seeks alternative methods of funding via contributions from individuals, organizations, etc. Contributions to Baptist Global Response are tax deductible.

  We hope to see people all around the world experiencing a full and meaningful life with hope and peace that inspires them to raise their families in confidence, build their communities with dignity, and share this abundant life with others.   Baptist Global Response is a 21st-century partner of the International Mission Board to help implement a more effective and efficient international relief and development effort.

  Baptist Global Response is not an official entity of the Southern Baptist Convention, but it does seek to work with all Southern Baptists to better respond to acute and chronic needs and to coordinate worldwide relief and development efforts.

• What is Baptist Global Response’s purpose?

  Baptist Global Response’s purpose is to connect Southern Baptists with relief and development needs worldwide. BGR seeks to mobilize and involve the influence, prayer, human and financial resources of Southern Baptists for worldwide relief and development. This includes training and equipping Southern Baptists in relief and development and providing a venue for Southern Baptists to celebrate what they are doing throughout the world to help poor, needy, and suffering people. We strive to work and cooperate with Southern Baptist state conventions, local associations, churches, and individuals in order to accomplish this.

• Why was Baptist Global Response created?

  In the recent past, there has been a significant refocusing on human needs around the world due to acute problems such as tsunamis, earthquakes, and hurricanes. Also, awareness about chronic problems such as poverty, AIDS, and hunger has been growing. Baptist Global Response was created to help Southern Baptists become more effective and efficient in responding to global needs created by acute and chronic situations. BGR seeks to coordinate the global resources of Southern Baptists in response to natural disasters, catastrophic crises, and chronic humanitarian needs outside the United States and Canada.

• How is Baptist Global Response staffed?

  BGR’s USA office is located in Nashville, TN where BGR’s leadership team is based. In addition BGR has an International office in Singapore. Moreover BGR has five global areas- Asia Rim, Central and South Asia, Europe-Middle East-North Africa, Sub-Sahara Africa, and the Americas. Each area has a field director, but staffing is kept to a minimum in keeping with the BGR core value of efficiency.

• When was Baptist Global Response organized?

  Baptist Global Response was organized in 2006 by several Southern Baptist individuals with a heart for seeing a visible, credible, coordinated Baptist effort in international relief and development.

• What does Baptist Global Response do?

  Baptist Global Response connects people in need with people who care. The “people in need” are those suffering from acute problems such as disasters, wars, epidemics, etc. as well as chronic ones including poverty, hunger, poor health, etc. The “people who care” are Southern Baptists who want to be involved in making a significant difference in the lives of needy people worldwide.

• Who runs Baptist Global Response?

  BGR has a five member Board of Directors who come from all walks of Southern Baptist life. The board appoints an executive director to lead the organization. The executive director is Jeff Palmer, based in Nashville, TN.
