Over 500,000 people in one province of Central Asia are served by one 80-bed hospital with inadequate medical and nursing staff. According to the government, there are only 35 “nurses” in the province, the majority of whom have had no formal training. BGR partners have been working with the hospital in a nurses’ two-year training program. The addition of 25 new nurses at the end of their two years of training to the 19 who will finish their second year in February 2012, will provide at least 44 trained nurses for the hospital and district clinics.
