Baptist Global Response held International Disaster Response training at Gardendale First Baptist Church in Gardendale, Ala., Feb. 3-5.  The 22 attendees participated in team exercises to simulate projects with language barriers, agency agendas, and normal disaster response roadblocks.

The training started with a study of the biblical foundation for meeting needs of survivors of disasters.  The training then progressed through a look at disaster trends, analysis of church potential, assessments and distributions, logistics, and then team selection and deployment.

The purpose of the training entailed showing the local church that they can do strategic international disaster response and can make a significant impact for the Kingdom.

Baptist Global Response is addressing the trend and desire of local churches to fulfill the Titus 3:14 mandate to meet pressing needs of those around them.  The ministry of Jesus and His disciples and the concern of the New Testament church often focused upon the combination of meeting needs and sharing truth.  In that way, this training focused on both word and deed.
