The worst drought in over 60 years left many communities in the Horn of Africa in desperate need of relief.  A very high percentage of children were suffering from malnutrition.  BGR partners focused on nine villages (over 4,000 people) on the east and southeast side of Marsabit Mountain that were not receiving any food relief.  Each family received 65 lbs. of maize, 30 lbs. of beans and 3 quarts of cooking oil per month (for three months). The food relief saved lives. Though the area is still suffering from the effects of the drought, the rains were adequate enough to allow many to plant small gardens.  BGR partners were able to distribute over 800 lbs. of maize and bean seed.  Those who plant will be able to receive food from a harvest in February or March.
