Turkey earthquake update 11/21/2011
This report just received from Turkey:
A BGR-trained aid worker in Istanbul is working through trusted locals to provide relief to hundreds of people. Your support is helping address the need for shelter, medical care and the feeding of families.
Thank you for your continued prayers and support. To date we have helped hundreds of people with blankets, food, tarps, medical supplies, clothing, a listening ear, and prayers. However, fearful of yet another earthquake, most families are reluctant to move into their homes and are living on the streets. With night-time temperatures now below freezing, it is becoming difficult for them. The people of Van are on the brink of great suffering.
Your support is helping relieve their suffering.
Because of the limited housing, continuous aftershocks, and language barriers, we are working through trusted locals. We are both confident and excited to be deeply connected to people who already live there and are willing to help. Please pray with us as we train and work with many different people.
Here are some details on our three projects:
• Shelter – $400 provides shelter for one extended family.
• Medical – We need doctors, nurses, EMTs, and PAs on standby. We will do a test run soon and, if successful, we will ask for others. We also will recruit locals to assist doctors. $300 will help a medical team minister for one day.
• Distribution – We are in process of building a mobile soup kitchen. Once complete, we will work with locals to assist in cooking and feeding. This will allow food to be delivered to those most impoverished by the disaster. This team also will organize a food and clothing distribution effort. $5,000 builds the mobile soup kitchen. $50 feeds a family of 3 for 1 week.
Thank you for your continued support and prayers. Please keep us in your prayers as we coordinate many different people in these three projects. To help with the cost of disaster responses like this one, please visit the BGR donation page.
